That shaking DC residents felt today wasn’t the ground-breaking passage of the financial reform bill: it was actually an earthquake!
According to several news reports, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Washington suburbs at 5 a.m. Eastern Time this morning. The tremors were centered around the town of Gaithersburg, Maryland, roughly 20 miles from downtown DC. This is the second earthquake to strike the eastern seaboard this summer, after a 5.0 magnitude quake that rattled Canada last month.
According to the New York Daily News, the tremors were reportedly felt as far north as Connecticut. However, at least one person was unaffected by the quake: President Obama told the Baltimore Sun that he didn’t feel a thing. See, Kathleen Parker, he’s not sensitive after all!
